When sailing into Scrabster Harbour, you might feel like royalty, as for several decades Queen Elizabeth II disembarked here from the Royal Yacht Britannia to visit The Queen Mother at her summer holiday estate, the stunning 16th-century Castle of Mey. Today, visitors are invited to tour the castle and grounds, which on a clear day offer sweeping views of the Orkney Islands. Norway's medieval capital pays homage to its past with wooden houses and cobbled streets that grace the historic Bryggen area around the wharf. Founded in 1641 near the southern tip of Norway, Kristiansand once claimed the world's largest fleet of sailing ships.
